Review: OPI Save Me Nicki Minaj

My on / off love affair with glitter continues this week in the form of ‘Save Me’ another glitter from the Nicki Minaj collection. Why I persevere with glitters when they are far less simple to remove than regular polish I am have no idea (!), but I am drawn to shiny sparkly things like a magpie and this polish is certainly both shiny and sparkly!

From first impressions, the bottle looks like any other dense glitter, but on closer inspection, you can see tiny bar glitters of blue, silver and pale pink swirled in amongst the regular grains of silver glitter.

All that glitter is suspended in a clear polish and as a result, this means that this is more of a glitter top coat than a stand-alone glitter polish such as the other colour I tried recently  ‘Metallic 4 Life’ (reviewed here).

The polish flows easily onto the nail, as I find is standard with other OPI polishes, and deposits a good amount of glitter onto the nails.  To achieve full coverage, verging on opaque, with only this polish, I anticipate that you would need at least 3 coats, however the stand out feature of this product for me is the ability to layer it over other polishes.

In the picture above, I have swatched ‘Save Me’ over several different polishes, as well as on its own, so you can get an idea of how it looks combined with other shades.  The swatch of ‘Save Me’ on its own is only two coats and you can see how it would need to be built up in order to become opaque.

With flash - Save Me and Suzi Says Feng Shui

‘Save Me’ combines well with both pink and blue shades of polish and I have done a NOTD above with OPI’s ‘Suzi Says Feng Shui’.  I think ‘Save Me’ will probably go best over crèmes rather than shimmers but it is very versatile and I can confirm that, as some of the glitter is in bar form, it is not absolute murder to remove!

Verdict

An impulse buy as part of my love/ hate relationship with glitters, this was a welcome surprise and not a regrettable purchase.  The glitter applies easily and combines well with many shades, and due to the presence of bar glitter, it is unique in my collection.  If you like glitter polishes, I can certainly recommend this!

Review: Nicki Minaj OPI Metallic 4 Life

This polish was a bit of an impulse purchase, after I swore I wouldn’t buy any more glitter polishes as I always get really frustrated when it comes to removal – and yes, I am aware of the foil method but I just get very impatient!

I confess to not really knowing  much about Nicki Minaj but she seems to have exploded in popularity recently thanks to her unique style.  She has recently become this year’s face of Mac Viva Glam, along with Ricky Martin, and now this collaboration with OPI has been launched.  The collection contains 6 different polishes – which includes 2 glitters and a purple shatter.  I purchased Metallic 4 Life and Save Me.

Today I am going to show you Metallic 4 Life but first a little grumble.  Do we really need to include text speak in a nail polish name?  I’m not sure if it is just supposed to make it appear more trendy, or if I’m perhaps a bit behind the times, but incorrect or lazy spelling really annoys me.  Rant over!

I liked Metallic 4 Life much more than I thought I would.  In the bottle, it reminds me of a galaxy of stars, with the varying sizes of glitter swirling in the blackness.  It is essentially a black jelly with small, medium and large flakes of glitter within it.  OPI have not skimped on the glitter and it contrasts very well with the black.  I am usually not a fan of black polish as I find it makes me look like a teenage goth (and I’m well out of my teenage years!)  but you tend to forget that this is black when you are wearing it as your eyes are drawn immediately to the sparkles.

The picture above shows 3 coats, and the polish glides on easily.  Beware that it does dry quite rough and you can certainly feel the glitter on your nails, so you may want to use a top coat to smooth it out a bit.  I found, as with most OPI chunky glitters, that this chipped fairly quickly within a couple of days, although I am quite rough with my hands and have been doing some cleaning over the weekend.

Verdict

A surprising hit!  If you like glitter polishes, this is certainly worth a look and not to be ignored. If, like me, you tend to shy away from dark shades or blacks, this is surprisingly wearable as the silver glitter and sparkles disguise the black and turn it more into a silver polish.  This loses a point for the price - I only wish OPI was cheaper here in the UK!
