2011 Favourites: Part 1- Makeup

I’m a little late with this but I wanted to do a short list of my highlights of the last year. There are some gaps, especially around the skincare and bodycare, mainly as there have not been any stand out superb items this year in these categories. I am still searching for these!!

Perfume of 2011 – Viktor & Rolf, Flowerbomb
http://www.julietinton.com/
I adore this and chose it as my wedding scent in June. It is a lovely sweet floral scent with an undercurrent of pepper to it and is very distinctive. I am on my second bottle of it already!

Lipstick – Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle(review here)

Bought on a whim, and my first foray into Chanel’s Rouge Cocos, this is a neutral, easy to wear shade which goes with everything. It helps me to look polished and pulled together in one easy swipe.

Lipgloss - Benefit Ticket to Glossytown (review here)
There has not been one outstanding lipgloss for me this year, however I have enjoyed using Benefit’s Ticket to Glossytown set, which was a set of 6 mini lipglosses from their permanent line, suitable for all occasions.

Lip Balm- Carmex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm in Peach
I reviewed this in full here but it has been my staple through all of summer, during my holidays and into the winter. It keeps my lips feeling super smooth and provides a hint of colour which warms up my skin.

Eyeshadows – Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombres (review here)

I started with one and swiftly bought another two shades, and I have a feeling there will be more purchases in the future…. These are really easy to use and stay put for hours. I reviewed these here.

Mascara – L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara

This was the mascara that finally made me shift my allegiance from Max Factor False Lash Effect. It applies easily, has a wand that I haven’t managed to poke myself in the eye with yet, and stays on all day without flaking or smudging which is a rarity for me!

Foundation / Tinted Moisturiser – No 7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser (review here)

This was a winner for me and I’m onto my 3rd bottle! I have been using this daily for over a year as it evens out my skin tone and provides a small amount of coverage for those days when I don’t want to wear full foundation.

Blush – Benefit Coralista
My go-to everyday shade for an easy flush of colour without too many sparkles. It is very similar to Nars Orgasm.

Concealer – Bobbi Brown Touch up Stick in Warm Sand
A HG product for me, I have been buying this for several years now. In stick form, it is very handy for touch ups throughout the day and blends effortlessly to cover blemishes and imperfections whilst never caking.

Nail Polish – Chanel Graphite
I did a recent NOTD using this for New Year’s Eve and it is the polish I have worn most over the past 6 months. I never have a problem with wear time with Chanel polishes and this glides on beautifully and is unique to my collection.

October Empties

This month hasn’t been a great month for finishing off products but there are quite a few that I am almost at the end of, so hopefully next month should be much better.

No 7  Tinted Moisturiser in Fair / Medium (reviewed here) – this was my 2nd bottle and I am now onto my 3rd.  Its affordable, does the job well and it is now well-ingrained in my morning routine.

Batiste Mini Tropical Shampoo – this was a mini travel version I received with the Latest in Beauty CEW award winners box. It was handy to keep in my bag for some after work volume and to give some life to my hair.  Hubby liked it as he said the scent reminded him of summer holidays and days at the beach which I guess is what they were aiming for.

Mini Radox Deodrant – not much to say about this really.  It did the job well, and didn’t leave any white marks on my clothes.  I do prefer my Sure roll on though so I will not be repurchasing. I think I got it as a freebie in a goodie bag after I ran the Edinburgh Marathon Relay in the Summer.  Again, this lived in my bag for after work emergencies.

L’Occitaine Verbena Shower Gel – this was a gift from my mum a while ago.  I liked the scent which was very fresh and clean and I believe it is one of L’Occitaine’s signature scents and products.  I don’t tend to repurchase shower gel though as it is such a simple product and there are so many varieties to try, but I would be tempted to try other products and ranges from L’Occitaine.

Label.m Honey and Oat Shampoo (reviewed here) – I enjoyed using this a couple of times a week to cleanse my hair and remove build-up in conjunction with my Liz Earle and Tigi Dumb Blonde Shampoos.  The scent is gorgeous and I would consider repurchasing as it seemed to cleanse my hair without stripping it of its natural oils or its colour.

Burt’s Bees  Therapeutic Bath Crystals – I got these from a Latest in Beauty monthly box and to be honest I wasn’t that impressed with them.  There was no discernable scent and I didn’t find them particularly relaxing or of any use in soothing tired muscles after going for a run.  I wouldn’t buy a full size of these and was quite disappointed with them as I do enjoy many other Burt’s Bees products.

And that’s it for this month, hopefully next month will prove a little more fruitful with finishing some of the products that are currently clinging on!
