Review: Burt's Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion

Normally by the middle of July, my summer footcare regime is in full swing. This year, I am still optimistic that my toes will see some sun rather than being encased in wellies and Converse the entire time, and so that I am prepared for any sudden outbursts of sun, I  have been maintaining my routine.

Burt's Bees is a brand I admire for its commitment to only using natural ingredients in their products. I'm tried a few of their products and had varying results but, in general, I really admire their ethos.  I also find the name humorous for no particular reason!

Their peppermint foot lotion is exactly the way a foot cream should be- rich, quick absorbing and with a strong peppermint scent.

It absorbs quickly and I've been slathering this on 2-3 time a week underneath a pair of cotton socks and my feet are noticeably smoother and softer.

My one grumble is that the tube isn't overly generous in size and it's not super cheap either. The Body Shop's Peppermint Intense Foot Rescue gives you more bang for your buck and is easier on the wallet too.

Verdict
A high-performing, rich foot cream which delivers what it promises. I do wish it was a little cheaper or you got more product though, as with regular application, I cant see this lasting long.

Dr Hauschka Daily Body Care Kit

I love luxurious bath and body products and when I was recently sent the Dr Hauschka Daily Body Care Kit with some trial / travel sized products as an introduction to the brand's body products, I couldn't wait to try them out!

The Daily Body Care Kit contains seven different items, all contained within a sleek, sturdy tin.

There are two body lotions included:
Rose - loved this scent
Quince - the scent was more of an acquired taste I feel and it smelled a little old fashioned

Both lotions absorb quickly, without leaving any tackiness or stickiness.  The scents are quite strong and I much prefer the rose to the quince.  I did find that each of these tubes only managed one full body application so I wasn't able to assess how well they moisturised in the long term.

Three oils are included:
Lavender Bath Oil
Rose Body Oil
Lemon Lemongrass Body Oil

These are all good sizes with a decent amount of product included.  I managed to get three baths from the Lavender Bath Oil and I tend to like to dump a large amount of oil in my baths.

Both Body Oils can be used as an alternative to body lotions, smoothing a small amount on damp skin after a shower or bath.  The scents of both are less strong than the Body Lotions but still pleasantly fragrant and soothing. I have also tried them as bath oils and found them equally fragrant and very relaxing.  I do love a multi-tasking product!

One hand cream.  This absorbs quickly and easily and is non greasy.  A little goes a long way.  I didn't find it a particularly exciting cream, it simply did its job and did its job well.  It does have a distinctive 'natural' scent but this dissipates very quickly.

Finally, also included in the set are two sachets of Fitness Foot Balm (see the first picture).  I tried using this after a long run on my tired feet (after a shower obviously!) and found it to absorb quickly and it certainly softened some of the harder areas of skin.  It does have a very unique herbal scent though and I was VERY glad it was on my feet and nowhere near my nose as it doesn't half pong!

Verdict
I really enjoy using little sets like these as it lets me play with different products and see if they work for me.  From initial use, the products which made the biggest impressions on me were the Bath and Body Oils.  All three scents were to my taste and not too strong either as I hate it when my body products overwhelm my perfume.  I loved the fact that the Body Oils were multi-tasking too.  If there was one product that perhaps didn't impress me as much it was the Foot Balm, mainly as I couldn't abide the scent, so I would recommend having a sniff before you buy if you fancy trying it.

My Summer Footcare Prep!

This seems like a strange time to write a post about prepping your feet for strappy Summer sandals when there is sleet falling past my window (!), but despite this recent cold snap we are experiencing, Spring is firmly on its way and it won’t be long before the flip flops are out and it is time to expose your toes to the world!

I do a lot of running, and am fond of wearing very high heels, and as a result, my feet often look less than attractive come Spring.  This means it is time to bring out the big guns when it comes to footcare.  Here are the main products I use to keep my feet in check!

Liz Earle Foot Scrub
I use this a few times a week during the Summer months as part of my morning shower routine.  I’ve tried a lot of different foot scrubs and have been disappointed that many were not sufficiently ‘scrubby.  Liz Earle is one of my favourite brands and, with regular use, this really does make your feet smoother and less scaly.  I love the peppermint scent too!

Microfile XL
Not the most attractive of products but I have found this is certainly the most efficient method of removing stubborn hard skin.  Far better than a Ped Egg, I think I heard about this from a US blog.   I bought it from Ebay about a year ago as it wasn’t available in the UK.  It is pretty hardcore!

The Body Shop Peppermint Intensive Foot Rescue
The Body Shop’s foot products are great value and really deliver when it comes to pampering your feet.  This intensive foot lotion is great for cracked heels and I just slather it on and pop a pair of socks on overnight for softer, smoother feet the next morning.  I tend to keep this lotion to areas of my feet that are really in need of a moisture injection as otherwise it is a little rich, but it really does the job.

The Body Shop Peppermint Cooling Foot Spray
I’ve been purchasing this spray for a few years now and it is invaluable for providing a cooling, refreshing sensation when you have been walking around all day in sandals and your feet are in need of some serious soothing.    It is great to use on your feet after exercise too.

Do you use any particular products to get your feet ‘sandal-ready’?
